Trials testing and research
Each antimicrobial PatientPak product has been extensively tested at independent laboratories to European Standards. The PatientPak Universal Sanitising Wipes, Hand Sanitiser, Bed Linen Spray and Hair and Body Wash all contain a patented antimicrobial formula, developed by medical professionals. The antimicrobial activity of PatientPak products satisfies the requirements of European Standard tests; EN 1276, EN 12054 and EN 1500.
EN 1276 describes a suspension test, simulating practical conditions of application relating directly to surface disinfection, these include simulated clean and dirty conditions, which may influence the antimicrobial activity of disinfectants.
EN 12054 describes a suspension test, simulating clean and dirty conditions for testing antimicrobial activity of handrubs, products applied to the hands without water. Once antimicrobial activity satisfies this European Standard it must pass EN 1500. EN 1500 describes a test procedure where the ability of the handrub to sufficiently reduce the release of transient flora when rubbed into the hands of volunteers.
PatientPak antimicrobial products passed these European Standards, surpassing the requirements. Test cultures of the pathogens were mixed with the PatientPak formula disinfectant. Samples of this mixture were taken, cultured, transferred to Petri dishes and incubated for 1-2 days. If there were any viable (alive) cells after treatment with the PatientPak antimicrobial, then these would grow during incubation and form a visible colony on the Petri dish. These colonies were then counted and the fraction of surviving organisms calculated. As stated above, these tests were carried out in simulated clean and dirty conditions. PatientPak products’ antimicrobial activity met European Standards by achieving the more than the required reduction in viable pathogens.
